Alan Wake (Xbox 360) Release date : 14/05/2010 Description : This game is too short. It has a lack of depth as far as the combat goes, and isn't really ever challenging, even as you progress into later levels. The combat is basically just shining a light on an enemy and then shooting them. There is no variation to this at all, other than tougher enemies take more light and bullets to kill. This is why the combat can get a bit tedious. Rinse and repeat throughout the whole game, and even boss battles are like this. Unfortunately there is very little thought requited to make it through the levels. Another thing which disappointed me is the fact that it is NOT a horror game. It isn't scary at all, unless to you 'scary' is being in the dark with a few enemies. As the box says, 'Psychological Action Thriller' is closer, but to be honest it wasn't even massively 'Psychological'. However, it is still a good game. The story is very well implemented, the graphics are really good and the lighting effects are brilliant - Especially with the use of shadows moving with the direction of the flashlight. Overall, I'd say it is worth buying, but as far as I can see it's nothing compared to other Remedy games. So, was it worth the extra long development time? For the story, graphics, light and shadow effects and animations, yes. For the gameplay, no. ![]()
